Check their site for the business. Make sure you check nationally, too, because they may not be just operating in your city or state.

Does the business provide training and support. Find out if you can test their telephone support. It is better if you can talk to someone, so leave a message and wait. If they call back within a day, they are probably not a scam. If the job is stuffing envelopes, typing at home, or reading email programs, then it is a home-based business scam.

If you have any outstanding questions about the reputation of a company, then the business is probably not a scam. If you do have any unanswered questions, and no one can seem to answer them, then it is a home-based business scam.

Often, most illegitimate home-based businesses are sales oriented. These businesses will have you sell products or services at a lower price and that you will receive a percentage of the sale. The percentage is quite low and will not make you any significant amount of cash unless you make lots of sales or bring in more representatives for the company.

Scams are easy to spot once you learn how they operate, what they offer, and what they tell you they can do for you. If more and more people did not buy into this type of business, these illegitimate companies would eventually die. However, as they are getting more and more sophisticated as the years pass, they bring in more and more people every day.
