Moreover, do not be ignorant of submission policies and processes. Each search engine's policies are different, as is their submission process. Find out what the process is for each search engine and follow it to the letter. Read their policies, so that when it is time to update the search engine's results, you know how to go about this, how often you can do this, and when the best time would be. This will increase your chances of having better results than if you were to go about it blindly.
Furthermore, do not jump into offers that are too good to be true from so-called SEO experts. They will make promises that seem wonderful, charge you more than you need to pay, and then fail to follow through on those promises… and you will not get the results you desire even if they DID follow through. When in doubt, do without.
Finally, do not neglect your title tag! This helps searchers identify with your website right away, and if it has what they are looking for, you are sure to get results. As well, in an ideal world, search engines will put their weight behind sites that have a title tag that clearly identifies their site's business themes right from the start.
